- <H2> Walking in the fall and winter can be very challenging for groomers!
- <H2> We all know that rumors get incredibly busy in the fall and winter with Thanksgiving and Christmas. And the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. So it's very difficult to find the time to exercise the way we were doing before the holiday season hit. So I made the conscious decision to not even try to do it if it wasn't going to be comfortable and feasible. I'm simply not going to do it. I'm watching my weight by monitoring my food intake but I have given myself permission to walk only when I have the time and the weather is cooperating. It really has been almost impossible was working the way I do during the holidays and trying to get any rest at home to find the time to walk it off but on my days off I have made the effort to get out there and do it.But I'm not upset with myself over the decisions that I have made. I have decided that it is ok and I have given myself permission to skip working out until it becomes easier and more of a possibility. So my suggestions to you if you're getting frustrated with yourself and you can't find the time and you're struggling to find the time is just give yourself permission to not do it. Take a week or two and don't pressure yourself. We have enough stress in our lives is groomers during the holiday season trying to get everybody groomed and trying to keep all of our clients and our families happy. It's hard enough to keep those things in Balance without adding and workouts that was really don't have time for.So give yourself permission to take some time off and just watch your food intake. Remember staying at the same level this is important as losing the weight to begin with.I give you permission skip those workouts if they become too hard to do or too stressful to do and you can start back up after the holiday season when we have more time on our hands. So on that note I'm at about four kilometers of a 7 kilometer hike LOL and I'm only doing it because I had the day off and I needed to burn off some frustrations from dealing with the county over my phone and the bank can't seem to get a debit card to work. So if you have the time to do it and if you don't have the time don't beat yourself up!

- <H2> My journey began
- <H2> With a slow steady weight gain. Fast food. Too tired to exercise. Thinking I was more active than I was. Then a ruptured calf muscle in 2014 resulted in me being on a walker for weeks while it healed. Added weight. Unable to think about exercise since I was trying to just walk unassisted. That healed but in the process the crutches and walker managed to do damage to an already injured shoulder and after months of pain I gained another 20 pounds. 3.5 hours or shoulder surgery and then of course, due to the extensive damage repaired I was not allowed to do rehab for 8 weeks, and it was 4 months before i was working fully again. My weight? 220. I hated my body and the weight was causing knee and hip problems.I was able to stop one of my medications and lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Sure most of it was water but WHO CARES? It was off. Then.In December of 2015 my husband was diagnosed with shingles. Right before Christmas. He was having major problems and this was not a simple illness for him. In fact it's September 2016 as I write this and he still has problems from it. The stress of recovery, shingles, working through a holiday season injured and the grandkids coming for the holiday?? Well I lost another 15 pounds and for the first time in years I was confident I could lose the weight.I was wrong. After the first 25 pounds I was done. It stopped. I couldn't lose any more no matter what I did. That is when I decided to keep a food log and I knew there had to be an app for that. I found My Fitness pal and it has changed my life. Who knew a sausage egg and cheese bisquit had 640 calories?? My daily intake while not eating much, was over 2000 calories!I quickly set my calorie limit to 1400 and made huge changes to my diet and low and behold, without doing anything but calorie counting the weight started falling off again. And of course, within a month or so it was stalling. I needed more incentive so I ordered an UP move tracker. My husband thought I was being silly but I was sure that it would at least show me what I needed to do and would help me track calories What happened next was transformational.I started NEEDING to make my step goal . If I failed I was upset with myself. I started walking around the yard. To make my count. A half mile was HARD for me. I started cooking more. All of a sudden I am down 40 pounds and 3 miles is EASY to walk. I am now 55 pounds in 9 months and have gone from half a mile to 10k. I crave movement. My body loves it. My mind has become addicted to my movements and food tracking.Maybe I swapped one addiction (unhealthy food) for another (healthier food and excercise), but honestly I don't care. A healthier mindset. Body. Weight. It's an addiction I don't want to be cured of.
