• <H1> ​About MeI have been a police officer for about 15 years and have conducted research in the topic of police use of force incidents and the current methods of law enforcement education and instruction. I also have interest in current educational attainment through the use of synchronous and asynchronous online education courses. My current research interest is the cognitive apprenticeship theory. I intended to create a junction where my experience in law enforcement and education could be used to develop a more effective way of instructing law enforcement officers throughout the nation. I obtained my M.Ed. from the University of Texas at Brownsville and am a currently and adjunct instructor at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas.Goals and AspirationsAs an online educator, I have strived to ensure the educational opportunities are available to all students. It is essential that the student be assured of a safe and comfortable learning environment to achieve his or her educational goals and objectives. It is an on-going challenge to provide students with clear explanations of complex topics, and to emphasize the significant linkage between the topics of study through accurate knowledge. As such, my online teaching objective is straightforward: Active online learning strategies and methodologies to assist students in their pursuit of greater knowledge, understanding, and application of ideas to an increasingly multifaceted approach to the chosen online topic.Integral components of this strategy must focus on:Online PedagogyEach student has a unique ethnic background, life experience, and work history. This uniqueness can be utilized to create a fundamental understanding of more complex theories, behaviors, and motivations of every individual. In essence I believe that the following categories are essential in the online Pedagogy of learning:Learning Goals
• <H1> My learning goals are very specific. I intend to provide my students a place to learn and communicate their ideas. To provide an avenue for students to provide feedback and explore complex learning topics with the assistance of their cohort. I will be a guide of unwavering dedication to my online students and ensure that online learning is not just a way of completion for a college course, but one of lifelong learning that will challenge and develop students from now and in the years to come.Teaching Methods
• <H1> Students must be continuously inspired and allowed to explore their own avenue of learning. At the beginning of any online program some guidance should be expected from their instructor. Towards the middle and end of the program the students should be comfortable in their online setting. Some scholars believe that this is when active learning actually takes place, and as educators we should foster this type of independent learning.Assessment of Student Learning: Student assessment should not be a single independent approach. I believe in the combination of assessment tools with the clear understanding of its objectives by my online students. If expectations are not clear, the program will fail. Students must be provided with clear expectations from the beginning without ambiguity. Assessment of the student’s attainment of knowledge can be by various assessment tools, but they must be used together to paint an accurate picture of the student’s knowledge. Assessment of Teaching: It is my belief that not only should assessment be continuous for online students, but should also be a requirement of its educator. To assess my teaching I will continuously seek peer review and the feedback from my past students. I will use this information for continued improvement to my Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure the information provided is accurate an up to date. I will continuously seek knowledge at conventions and peer-reviewed presentations to ensure my online presence is an accurate and positive one.
