The station  has been in existence since 1853 and currently operates both an Atlantic 85 lifeboat "DORIS JOAN" which was placed on service at the station on 6th November 2007 and an Arrancia Inshore Rescue Boat "Margaret and Nantw"(A-76) which arrived on 16th June, 2011. The IRB is primarily used for work in the shallow waters of the Glaslyn and Dwyryd estuaries..

  • <H1> During the morning of Sunday, 9th March, 2014 the Arancia container was moved back to its permanent site following its temporary removal following the storms on 3rd January. It will now be bolted to the concrete apron on which it lies.

  • <H1> Paul Boissier, the RNLI's Chief Exutive, accompanied by Colin Williams the Regional Operations Manager, visited the station on Wednesday, 8th January and met with operational personnel and fundraisers.
  • <H1> Arancia Storage Container Carried Away By Storm
  • <H1> The container which temporarily houses the IRB was moved approximately 25 feet by the strength of the storm which battered Criccieth on Friday, 3 January, 2014. Later that afternoon the container was lifted by a mobile crane and taken to the safety of the car park off the main promenade. No damage was done and the IRB was soon back on service.

  • <H1> The land rover which had been in use since the arrival of the IRB in July 2009 was replaced by a larger  L200 Mitsibushi on 19th November. It gives more space for the crew and proper storage space for equipment.

  • <H1> It is with deep regret that we report the passing away of the last remaining crew member who re-opened the station in 1953. Glyn Pritchard died on 11th September, 2013. He served as a crew member on the all weather lifeboat before she was removed in 1968 and was Assistant Mechanic from 1962 onwards. He also served on the crew of the inshore lifeboat from her arrival in 1967 until his retirement from the station.

  • <H1> At the start of the routine weekly exercise on 2nd August the lifeboat assisted a young man in proposing to his girlfriend. As both of them stood at the end of the pier the lifeboat came past displaying a banner asking the girlfriend to marry him. Their families watched nearby in what was a moving ocassion.

  • <H1> The RNLI's Gold Badge was presented to Jim Owen by the Duke of Gloucester at the RNLI's Annual Presentation of Awards at the Barbicvan, London on Thursday 17th May, 2012. Jim recently retired at the statikon's President having previously served since 1965 as a shore helper, crew, senior helmsman and DLA.

  • <H1> The Arancia, Land Rover and Stormy Stan were present on the Maes at Criccieth during this event. Santa and Stormy Stan headed the parade up the High Street on Saturday 3rd December.

  • <H1> This took place on Sunday, 14th August and was a great success. There was a rescue demonstration involving both lifeboats as well as various stalls in the boathouse.  Stormy Stan was present to delight the crowd and over £800 was raised for the RNLI's funds. Thanks to everyone whjo made the day a big success.

  • <H3>    The Whitby Historic Lifeboat "William Riley of Birmingham and Leamington"  visited Porthmadog for the Ffestiniog Railway Mayday event. On Saturday, 8th May she was rowed from Porthmadog to Criccieth and back by members of the lifeboat crew and Porthmadog Rowing Club.
  • <H1> Criccieth lifeboatman Huw Owen was recently awarded a “Pride of Wylfa Award”. Huw is employed at the Wylfa Power Station in Anglesey and was nominated by his workmates for the award which is given to employees who carry out community service in their local community. At a recent ceremony Huw was presented with his award by Nick Gore, Wylfa Site Director and at the same time a cheque for £250 towards the work of the Criccieth Lifeboat Station was presented to Peter Williams, the station’s Lifeboat Operations Manager.

  • <H3> Paul Filby the station's Senior Helmsman who joined with his colleagues from the RNLI's Flood Rescue team to move people to safety from the floods in Cumbria in November 2009 has been awarded the RNLI Chief Executive's Award for his efforts there. Over 200 people  were assisted by the RNLI teams. Paul will be appearing on a special BBC "Songs of Praise" programme from Cockermouth on BBC 1 at 5pm on Sunday 21 February 2010.

  • <H1> The new Arrancia IRB arrived on station on 30th July 2009 and was launched for work up trials in the Porthmadog Estuary on the morning of Saturday, 1st August. It took exactly the same time for the Arrancia to arrive at Borth y Gest having been towed by the station's new landrover as it did for the Atlantic 85 to travel from Criccieth by sea.

  • <H2> Filming for Welsh Language Children's Programme "Cei Bach"
  • <H2> A new televison programme for children aged 3-7 is being filmed in the Borth y Gest area. Similar to the English language Balamory programme 52 15 minute episodes are being prepared for showing on S4C - the Welsh language television channel over the next two years. The lifeboat was involved in filming a rescue scene on Sunday, 10th May when the family who star in the programme had to be rescued after being "cut off by the tide".
