• <H5> After graduating from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, I decided it was my time to explore a part of the world I knew little about. I decided to take a teaching job in South Korea, and from there I was able to explore a little bit of Asia and meet a lot of interesting people. After teaching English to Kindergarteners and elementary students for 7 months, I volunteered at a language café in South Korea, and Vietnam. I met with locals and volunteers from around the world on a day to day basis and we discussed a wide range of topics from hobbies to politics. I also had the opportunity to travel to Japan and Taiwan. Now I am back in the United States, looking to pursue a career in my degree so that I may put my degree to use, as well as expand my knowledge in the field of engineering. Currently I am working as a hostess in Charlottesville, Virginia. When I'm not at work, I try to be productive by working on getting my certificate in an online CS course provided by Harvard, and continuing to expand my knowledge on the Korean language. For fun, I like to read, play video games, go hiking, and juggle. But since I recently arrived back in the United States, I mostly like spending time and catching up with my friends and family that I missed while I was abroad for a year.

• <H5> With mechanical engineering being such a broad engineering field, I have had trouble deciding exactly what path I want to pursue for a career. I often think back to my first Co-op with Exelis (now under the name Harris), a company that manufactures night vision goggles. I started at this company after a difficult semester of classes, unsure of my qualifications and my ability to contribute to the company. I quickly found my ground after I was entrusted with a cost savings project that saved the company significant costs by reducing their IPA consumption by a third. However, I still found myself having plenty of free time after doing my day to day tasks. I decided to start shadowing a co-worker who was building a few different robots to help automate some of the processes in the assembly line. I really enjoyed the process of manufacturing, coding, and implementing a robot into the production line. I found it interesting and rewarding when a difficult task was finally accomplished. I ran with this interest in robotics and took a couple of related classes my senior year, as well as joined the bio-inspired robotics senior design team. Through my classes and senior design project I gained leadership, presentation, and coding skills. Currently I am working towards finding a job related to robotics. However, I have learned to be open to new and different opportunities, and I am mostly excited to learn and expand my knowledge in any engineering field that may present itself to me.
